The following short story was written, illustrated and printed by a class of five-year-old students according to a pedagogical method devised by the French educational reformer and union organizer Célestin Freinet. It was originally published in the December 1930 edition of Freinet’s student newspaper La Gerbe. I am publishing my translation on this site with the kind permission of the ICEM-Pédagogie Freinet. It may not be repurposed elsewhere. -A.
